Reconciliation Week 2025

Reconciliation Week | 27 May – 3 June 2025

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Reconciliation Australia tell us that the National Reconciliation Week 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future.

Bridging Now to Next calls on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us. Twenty-five years ago, Corroboree 2000 brought together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous leaders in a historic call for reconciliation. We continue that work in 2025, inviting all Australians to join us in Bridging Now to Next – building a more united and respectful nation.

Council is hosting a range of activities to mark this important week and invite local people to get involved.

We’re winners in the 2024 NHVic Awards!

Melton City Council were recently nominated for not one but two awards in the 2024 Neighbourhood Houses Victoria NHVic Awards!

The award program recognises and celebrates the valuable work of Neighbourhood Houses on a state-wide level. The six categories are each linked to several of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals to demonstrate the impact of local action in meeting the aims of the global goals. The six award categories are:

  • Social Enterprise
  • Community Resilience
  • Gender Equity
  • Climate Action
  • Reducing Inequalities
  • Good Health & Wellbeing

Council’s Hillside Community Centre and Taylors Hill Youth & Community Centre were nominated in the ‘Good Health & Wellbeing’ and ‘Gender Equity’ categories respectively.

Whilst we didn’t win for our ‘Ageing Artfully’ project at Hillside under the ‘Good Health & Wellbeing’ category, we’re thrilled to be announced as the winner under the ‘Gender Equity’ category for our ‘Women in Business & Entrepreneurship (WIBE)’ project at Taylors Hill!

The WIBE project contributed to addressing gender inequality amongst Indian women in the City of Melton through the key areas of economic empowerment, education, social connection and wellbeing. The initiative supported local women led businesses and entrepreneurs to start, grow, connect and thrive. The project achieved this through three focus areas:
  • the delivery of workshops led by local women for local women
  • business coaching
  • education and training support

Thank you to Neighbourhood Houses Victoria for the acknowledgement of both of these important projects.
