Olives to Oil is back for 2026!

Melton City Council is partnering with CERES to deliver Olives to Oil, an annual community initiative bringing people together to harvest unused olives from neighbourhood trees and receive pressed olive oil in return.

To take part in this exciting program, pick olives from nearby tress in your garden, street, or neighbourhood, before bringing them along to one of the designated drop-off point days. There are three drop-off points located across the neighbouring Cities of Brimbank, Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay.

Drop-off days run from 11am – 2pm at the following locations:

  • Sunday 17 May – Outside Visy Cares Hub, 80B Harvester Rd, Sunshine
  • Sunday 24 May – Newport Community Hub, 13/15 Mason St, Newport
  • Sunday 31 May – McNish ‘Dinosaur Park’ Reserve, Court St, Yarraville

Important: You must have a ticket before arriving at any of the drop-off locations to allow the team to prepare for your harvest’s collection.

Once dropped off, the olives are pressed into oil, which is then returned to those who contributed at the special Collection Event to be held on Saturday 18 July at Burnside Children’s and Community Centre!

This initiative celebrates and highlights the importance of local food in our communities as well as recognising the wonderful heritage of diverse food cultures.

Visit the CERES website to learn more.
