Community Safety Month

Melton City Council is committed to increasing safety in the municipality through Community Safety initiatives. 

Community Safety Month is an annual event held every October and reminds us that we all have a role in making our communities safer.

The campaign shines a spotlight on a number of community safety issues, including personal safety, cyber safety and mental health and wellbeing.

TUESDAY 4 OCTOBER

Accredited CPR and First Aid Course – SOLD OUT
This one day comprehensive first aid training and CPR course is facilitated by accredited trainers from Results First Aid Training. During the 6 hours you will learn CPR and a range of first aid skills and receive an accredited certificate which is valid for 3 years from completion.

Self Defence Workshop
Come along to our free Self Defence workshop and learn some basic techniques, build confidence and leave feeling empowered.

Neighbour Connect Day
Hosted by Neighbourhood Watch, this event aims to bring together local organisations, services and a variety of clubs and not-for-profit groups based in the local area. There will also be free activities for the whole family.

CARE Melton Expo (VIRTUAL)

More Than a License: An information session for supervising drivers
This session provides parents, guardians, friends and family members who are supervising a learner driver with practical information, tips and advice to help build their coaching skills.

Correctly fitted child car restraints and booster seats play a critical part in protecting children from serious injury and death in the event of a car accident. As part of the Children’s Week Family Fun Event Safe Seats, Safe Kids will be providing free child car restraint fittings and safety checks.

Melton Learning Directory Yoga Extravaganza – 8 Yoga programs for the price of 1!

A selection of yoga classes instructed by our friendly tutor Alicia that are normally held in Council’s community facilities will be delivered online throughout term 4 whilst covid-19 restrictions prevent us from meeting in person. Whilst we would love to be catching up with you in our centres, this online delivery of classes gives us the opportunity to offer you more bang for your buck!

How it works:

Simply book into any one of the virtual yoga programs listed below and we’ll send you an email with Zoom links to every single program! You’’ have access to eight different sessions each week all for the cost of one! We have programs suitable for all ages and abilities with sessions available all across the week for the full duration of term 4.

Price: $95 full price or $85 concession for all programs except Yoga for Seniors which is $50. Payment must be made via the appropriate webpage relevant to the program you’d like to book into.

Term 3 program bookings open Tuesday 15 June!

Although we currently find ourselves looking for new things to learn and engage in from the comfort of our homes, our team are still busy at work planning a full schedule of online and face-to-face programs for term 3! Our community are extremely lucky to not only be able to get involved in a variety of old favourites, we have many new and exciting programs and events on offer as well!

Bookings for term 3 programs will open from 9am on Tuesday 15 June. Listings are being added each day this week but you can already browse many opportunities already. Visit the programs page of our website to see what’s on offer and put those things that get your attention in your wish list ready to book in next week!

We are following the coronavirus situation in metropolitan Melbourne closely. Rest assured that you can make a no risk booking into our programs next week. Should any lasting restrictions at the beginning of term 3 result in the cancellation of any programs, refunds for those sessions will be issued to all paying participants.

Create a Bus Safety Poster to Win

Travelling to school by bus, although not particularly prominent in 2020, can be for many young people, their first experience of travelling independently.

Transdev are committed to promoting education around bus safety and building young people’s confidence to use a bus for travel.

To help spread the message, Transdev are inviting students in years 5-8 to create an original poster featuring a bus safety message for your chance to win 1 of 4 prizes. Entries close 25 September.

Caroline Springs Library hosting $15 summer Yoga sessions

Give your body, mind and spirit a great start to the new year.

Over January, Caroline Springs Library & Learning Hub will host a series of summer yoga classes, made possible by Hillside Community Centre. These Hatha inspired yoga classes are designed to align and calm your body, mind and spirit through exercise, breathing and meditation.

Delivered by an experienced and passionate yoga instructor, Alicia’s classes provide an opportunity to stretch, unwind, and release tension while strengthening and promoting flexibility in the body. 

Suitable for men & women of any age and ability, this series of three classes are a great introduction to the new year before Alicia’s regular yoga classes begin for the year in February.
