
16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence
Melton City Council is proud to be supporting the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence campaign again in 2022, an international campaign that aims to galvanise action to end violence against women and girls around the world. 16 Days of Activism starts on 25 November, coinciding with International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ends on 10 December, which marks Human Rights Day. Join us for activities we have planned for this year’s 16 Days of Activism Campaign.

Orange Lady Campaign
16 orange ladies will be divided between the Melton and Caroline Springs Libraries. These will be surrounded by a display of books on issues around gender equality or family violence.

Annual Walk Against Family Violence
For the first time since 2019, the WAFV2022 will be an in-person event and will begin at Parliament House and finish in Carlton Gardens. If you can’t join the Melbourne walk at the Safe Steps WAFV, individual and community walks are encouraged in local areas, particularly in regional and rural communities.

Exploring Healthy Masculinities Community Talks – SESSION 1
Join us for a workshop where Jesuit Social Services’ “The Men’s Project” will talk about the “Man Box” and how to break out of harmful masculine stereotypes. The events are free with light refreshments to be served. Two topics covered:
1. Unpacking the “Man-box” and the impact of gender stereotypes and norms, and the pressures around masculinity
2.Exploring and role-modelling healthier masculinity and fatherhood in your community

Financial Literacy Workshop for Women
Financial literacy is the ability to understand and effectively use various financial skills, including personal financial management, budgeting and investing.

Energy and Water Ombudsman Mel Shirley – Managing energy and water bills and what services the Ombudsman can offer

Craftism with Kitiya Palaskas
Get your craft on and take a stand against gender-based violence. In honour of the 16 Days of Activism campaign, you’re invited to join renowned craft-based designer and author Kitiya Palaskas to create your own empowering tote bag! Learn how to use a Cricut machine to design and make your own unique piece to take home. All materials will be supplied.
