Details

This is a 4-week intermediate program starting 2 June 2026 running every Tuesday from 6pm.  

Dive into the wonderful world of clay and discover the joy of creating your own unique pieces in our new hand-building pottery program.  

Over 4 weeks you will learn a variety of building techniques including the pinch pot, slab building and coil techniques to craft your own lidded jar & spoons, large mug & water vase before ending the program by decorating your creations ready for firing.  

At the end of the program, you’ll have a collection of handcrafted pottery pieces to take home and proudly display, each creation a reflection of your artistic flair.  

Course outline: 

Session 1: Lidded Jar + Spoon (Pinch Pot)
Participants will create a lidded jar using an advanced pinch pot technique, focusing on: 

  • Building even walls and consistent thickness 
  • Creating and fitting a functional lid 
  • Crafting a small matching spoon
    This session develops control and precision beyond beginner level. 

Session 2: Large Mug (Slab-Building) 

  • Constructing larger, balanced forms 
  • Refining rims and bases 
  • Building and attaching well-proportioned handles 
  • Exploring subtle texture or surface detail 

Session 3: Water Vase (Coil-Building) 

  • Building taller forms with structural stability 
  • Shaping elegant necks and curves 
  • Handle-pulling techniques 

Session 4: Surface Design & Dip Glazing Techniques 

  • Dip glazing methods 
  • Underglaze decoration 
  • Finishing and refining surfaces 
  • Introduction to the firing process 

Our experienced instructor will guide you every step of the way, ensuring that you feel confident and supported throughout the process. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your skills will develop as you explore different hand-building techniques and experiment with various shapes and forms.
