Competition: Gender Equality Art Ideas

Timbertop Children’s & Community Centre invites you to share your ideas for what art pieces could adorn the walls of the centre.

Under the theme of gender equality, send us a creative art idea like a pencil sketch or a painting or any other art medium with a short blurb on how the art work aligns with the theme. Your ideas will be shared with the local community before a panel chooses a winner who will receive a prize! Information about how the winning idea will come to life will be shared shortly after the winner is announced.

Send your ideas via email or drop it in to the centre in person.

February 9: Safer Internet Day

On Safer Internet Day the world comes together with a shared vision of making online experiences better for everyone. Online activities are part of our everyday lives, so ensuring people of all ages stay safe is vital.

Webinars for Parents & Carers

eSafety are celebrating the day with a series of webinars for parents and carers, exploring the latest research about skills you can teach your children to stay safe online. You can find a webinar time that suits you via the eSafety website.

Last year, using the internet to communicate with our loved ones became the main way of staying in touch for many of us in the City of Melton. As such, Paul from Hobstar Computer Solutions shared with us his top tips to recognise internet and phone scams as well as ways keep your passwords and information safe in an easy to understand YouTube video. Digital Mentor Training

In coming weeks, the City of Melton will be launching its Digital Mentor training and free community classes to learn computer basics and keeping yourself safe. If you are interested in upskilling in this area whilst supporting your community as a Digital Mentor please email cassandrac@melton.vic.gov.au to register your interest.

The City of Melton Lifelong Learning Festival is returning in just a matter of days!

This virtual celebration offers City of Melton residents and beyond the chance to participate in over 50 online events, absolutely free! No matter your age, ability or interest, the festival has something to offer.

Competition: Halloween Spoonville Stories

If there’s one thing lockdown has brought us, it’s a multitude of Spoonville communities all over the City of Melton! These spoony cities have brought joy to many of our residents, especially the little ones.

To celebrate Halloween we are giving away 30 activity packs, 10 each for kids, teens and adults! For your chance to win, tell us your spookiest Spoonville story (real or made up!) in the comment section of this post on our Facebook page. To be in the draw you must ‘like’ our Facebook page and include in your comment:

  • Your spooky spoony story – this can be a written story, a drawing, a poem, as creative as you can think of!
  • Storyteller’s name
  • Storyteller’s age – open to any age
  • Storyteller’s suburb – City of Melton only

If you’d prefer to email your entry, include all of the above information and send it to mld@melton.vic.gov.au

Entries close 5pm Wednesday 11 November. Winners will be announced on our Facebook page on Friday 13 November. Activity packs will be delivered in a contactless manner to winner’s homes from Monday 16 November.

We are excited to announce that the postponed City of Melton Lifelong Learning Festival will return from November 19-22!

This reimagined virtual celebration will feature a mix of live streamed and pre-recorded online events as well as audio casts and Q&A’s. No matter your age, ability or interest, the festival has something to offer.

Grand Opening: Timbertop Children’s & Community Centre

Join us to celebrate the recent opening of the brand new Timbertop Children’s & Community Centre in Aintree!

This free community event includes a children’s animal farm, rock climbing wall, dance, karate and exercise workshops, face painting, Bunnings gardening workshops, food trucks and more!

Join us on Saturday 28 March from 10:30am – 1:30pm, we can’t wait to celebrate with you! 

Donate a Shoebox Gift to vulnerable women this Christmas

Help us help local, vulnerable women this Christmas during this year’s Shoebox Gift drive. Distributed by the Caroline Chisholm Society, the boxes provide pregnant women and parents with young children essential items to ensure they are able to have a safe and happy Christmas.

Gift ideas include sunscreen, nut free sweets, body and hand lotion, re-usable water bottles, toothpaste, hair brushes, nail polish, purse sized tissues, colouring books, gift cards, Myki cards with money loaded and more.

If you would like to help this Christmas and donate a Shoebox Gift, you can drop them off at your local Neighbourhood House or Community Centre before Friday 29 November 2019.

Thank you for participating in the 2019 Melton Lifelong Learning Festival!

Over the 10 days from October 18-27, over 200 learning events were held across the municipality. The City of Melton community of all ages, abilities and interests discovered new things and ways to learn including new cooking skills, hand embroidery, how to protect your tools, how to keep yourself safe online and in the community, traditional dancing and so much more.
