Council’s Community Activity & Learning facilities are on the lookout for additional tutors to share their expert knowledge and experience in our centre programs. These programs cater to people all over the City of Melton no matter their age, ability or interest and are delivered year round on a school term basis as well as over the school holidays. Tutors are paid for their time.

We are specifically looking for tutors for fitness, yoga, kid’s art, music and non-accredited first aid, more details about where and who to contact can be found below.

Diggers Rest, tell us what you think about your community pavilion!

Melton City Council seeks your valuable input into the final touches of planning for the Diggers Rest Community Pavilion.

After the initial consultation where the community helped us inform the design of the building, we are now inviting you to provide your feedback in relation to the colour and texture of the building, the activities that could be held in the community hall and your thoughts on including the Houdini model aircraft in this facility.

Please join us on Tuesday 15 December between 4pm – 6pm at Diggers Rest Community Hall for a presentation on the project followed by the opportunity to provide feedback.

Tell Council about your great idea!

Do you have a great initiative or project idea that you think should be included in the Council budget?

Melton City Council is starting to prepare for the 2021/2022 Budget and want residents to share the things they think will make a difference to their local community.

Residents, local community groups, organisations, and clubs can submit their ideas by completing the online Budget Submission Form on Council’s website.

Budget allocation requests can be made between: Wednesday 25 November and 5pm Wednesday 16 December.

Melton City Council 2020 Christmas Food & Toy Drive

2020 has been challenging for the entire City of Melton community and as the end of the year approaches, the stresses of the financial burden Christmas can be is certainly affecting many of our residents.

Christmas is a time for celebrating, but for many families it is challenging, lonely and isolating. Help us give hope to a family in need by donating non-perishable food and/or toys in the month of November to your closest Community Connector Hub. Each hub will be accepting donations on particular days of the week.

All donations should adhere to the below guidelines.

  • Food
    • All donated food is non-perishable, unopened, in its original packaging, in date and undamaged
  • Toys
    • All donated toys are brand new and in their original unopened packaging. Toys that are opened but as new cannot be accepted.
    • Stuffed toys should not be donated
    • Toys should not be wrapped. This allows parents the dignity of choosing gifts for their child and also gives them the special experience of wrapping the gifts. Feel free to include some wrapping paper or a gift bag for parents to use.

Thank-you for your generosity and for helping us to give hope to families who need it most.

If you are experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are in need of Christmas gifts this year. Please contact your closest Community Connector Hub for details on how to access this service.

Applications Close Friday 30 October: Ongoing Community Facility Use in 2021

Interested community groups, small businesses and community agencies are invited to apply for ongoing use of Council’s community facilities throughout 2021.

Our facilities are suitable for a variety of activities including, meetings, workshops, seminars, active and passive programs, and presentations, accommodating between 6 – 250 guests.

HOW TO APPLY

Applications open Monday 19 October.

Applications close Friday 30 October at 5pm.

Interested parties must complete an ‘Application for Facility Allocation Form’. The form and venue information can be found on Council’s website at http://www.melton.vic.gov.au/Out-n-About/Community-facilities/Venues-for-hire.

Applications are for ongoing bookings, a minimum of six per calendar year.

Completed applications must be returned to Council by 5pm on Friday 30 October 2020.

All bookings for community facilities will be managed within Victorian government Covid-19 restrictions and guidelines applicable at the time.

Create a Bus Safety Poster to Win

Travelling to school by bus, although not particularly prominent in 2020, can be for many young people, their first experience of travelling independently.

Transdev are committed to promoting education around bus safety and building young people’s confidence to use a bus for travel.

To help spread the message, Transdev are inviting students in years 5-8 to create an original poster featuring a bus safety message for your chance to win 1 of 4 prizes. Entries close 25 September.

For many in our community, lockdown has become the perfect time to learn something new or discover a new hobby, all from the comfort of your own home. To celebrate our extensive series of online programs, we are giving away 5 amazing prizes to 5 lucky winners on our Facebook page! Entering is easy and can be done in 3 easy steps.

RECIPE: ANZAC Biscuits

Whilst Australia gathers to remember past and present service men & women in a different way than we are used to, we know the ANZAC spirit is as alive as ever. In lieu of gathering with friends and family to pay your respects, why not bake the famous and delicious The Country Women’s Association of Victoria Inc. – CWA ANZAC biscuits at home! Use the hashtag #cwaofvicanzac on Facebook to share your creations.

RECIPE

INGREDIENTS
– 1 cup rolled oats
– 1 cup desiccated coconut
– 1 cup plain flour
– 1 cup white sugar
– 1/2 tsp salt (optional)
– 125g butter
– 1 tbsp golden syrup
– 1 tsp bicarb soda
– 2 tbsp boiling water

METHOD
1. Preheat oven to 180C, line two baking trays with baking paper.

2. Place the oats, coconut, sifted flour, sugar and salt into a bowl. Mix well.

3. Melt butter in a saucepan. Add golden syrup, bicarbonate of soda and the boiling water to the saucepan. Stir well.

4. Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients. Mix well.
Boil together the butter, water and golden syrup, then add the bicarb soda.

5. Place spoonfuls of mixture onto the lined trays and bake for 10-12 minutes.

6. Remove from oven and loosen biscuits on tray with a knife or spatula. Allow to cool on tray and enjoy!
