Neighbour Day 2023

Neighbour Day was was launched in Melbourne in 2003 as an opportunity to ‘check on your neighbour’ and is a year-round campaign with a dedicated day-of-action celebrated on the last Sunday of March annually.

This year Council is celebrating Neighbour Day at a number of community centres around the municipality with free morning teas and activities for the whole family!

This annual day of celebration, organised by Relationships Australia, is a social connection campaign that aims to support and enable sustainable respectful relationships across communities, while also helping to address loneliness across the nation.

We look forward to celebrating with you to mark this special milestone whilst strengthening our connections with you and other locals. Bookings are required.

To get a job on a construction site you must have a Construction Induction Card (White Card). Melton City Council is offering free White Card training.

You will learn about the basics of OH&S principles, emergency procedures, hazards, risks and more. After the session a recruitment specialist will give you information about employment opportunities and pathways. Eligibility requirements will apply for participants. Interpreters will be available on the day. Classes are in English.

16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence

Melton City Council is proud to be supporting the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence campaign again in 2022, an international campaign that aims to galvanise action to end violence against women and girls around the world. 16 Days of Activism starts on 25 November, coinciding with International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ends on 10 December, which marks Human Rights Day. Join us for activities we have planned for this year’s 16 Days of Activism Campaign.

Annual Walk Against Family Violence
For the first time since 2019, the WAFV2022 will be an in-person event and will begin at Parliament House and finish in Carlton Gardens. If you can’t join the Melbourne walk at the Safe Steps WAFV, individual and community walks are encouraged in local areas, particularly in regional and rural communities.

Safe Spaces Co-Design Workshop

The City of Melton are working with Monash University to do a research project with people who identify as migrants or women to find out what makes you feel safe in our community. We’re inviting you to participate in a one-day hands on workshop where you’ll have the opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas in an interactive way. During the workshop, you will be working in diverse groups to co-design safety and inclusion solutions in public spaces for women and migrant community members.

The workshop will be held on from 10.30am-3pm on Saturday, 19 November at the Melbourne Town Hall in the city. Morning tea and lunch will be provided, and every participant will receive a $100 voucher to thank you for your time and contributions to the workshop.

Community Safety Month

Melton City Council is committed to increasing safety in the municipality through Community Safety initiatives. 

Community Safety Month is an annual event held every October and reminds us that we all have a role in making our communities safer.

Invitation to Apply for Ongoing Community Facility Use in 2023 – NOW CLOSED

Interested community groups, small businesses and community agencies are invited to apply in Councils annual expression of interest period for ongoing use of community facilities throughout 2023.

Councils community facilities are suitable for a variety of activities including, meetings, workshops, seminars, active and passive programs, and presentations.

HOW TO APPLY

Applications open 9am Monday 26 September 2022.

Applications close 5pm Friday 7 October 2022.

Interested parties must complete an ‘Application for Facility Allocation Form’. The form and venue information can be found on Council’s website via https://www.melton.vic.gov.au/Out-n-About/Community-facilities/Venues-for-hire.  Link will be active at 9am on Monday 26 September 2022.

Applications are for ongoing bookings, a minimum of six per calendar year.

Completed applications must be returned to Council by 5pm on Friday 7 October 2022.

How Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the Victorian State Government will affect ongoing hire bookings.
Melton City Council community facilities operate in line with Victoria State Government Covid-19 restriction advice. During periods of mandatory lockdown, hirers will not be charged by Melton City Council for cancelled bookings as a result of a lockdown. Melton City Council is not responsible for loss of bookings or associated third party costs incurred by hirers due to mandatory lockdowns enforced by the Victoria State Government. The hirer may liaise with the relevant Council officer to organise an alternate time for their cancelled booking.

Paper based applications no longer accepted.
Melton City Council no longer accepts paper-based ongoing hire application forms. Only digital application forms will be accepted. If you need assistance to complete a digital application form, please contact the Civic and Community Facilities Team at venues@melton.vic.gov.au.

2022 International Women’s Day Competition
